MAR, Rio de Janeiro

Categories: Specialty Museums, Museums
Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 1,500+ reviews on the web
A palace and a former bus station house rehabbed as gallery space house the MAR. Timely exhibitions display contemporary art from local artists alongside historic Latin American masters. A walkway connecting the two buildings is symbolic of the connection between Brazilian and international art. The MAR seeks to foster this connection and draw attention to Brazil’s significant contribution to the art world. • The structure of the Museum is beautiful, the service is great, it has a cloakroom, restaurant and souvenir shop. The exhibitions are very beautiful (just about the Carpenter left me a little open mouth for presenting images of dead people at the entrance and women dancing funk with guns, I don't believe that's the image of the carioca, much less who was with children). Well worth going up to the gazebo and enjoy the view of the Praça Mauá, the Harbour, Bay of Guanabara and Rio-Niterói Bridge. Great ride!

  • Excellent the sea, we were in 10/13/16 and saw three exhibitions, all with excellent curating. The Museum is in Maua Square and it is possible to reach by TRAM. On the door there are three foodtrucks. The exhibition LEopoldina that is at the moment is very good!!!

  • Worth knowing the works of artists, as well as the architecture of the building which houses the Museum. An old building and the other entegram so modern harmonic, especially when it comes to the terrace and descortia the Bay of Guanabara. That visual with the Museum of Tomorrow.

  • One of the newest museums in the city, M.A.R. is definitely an option in Rio. The architectural solution to join the two buildings created a real masterpiece. Arts school and museum, nice café and shop on the ground floor.
  • The museum has a free access rooftop with a great view of Mauá plaza and the harbour region, including the newest Tomorrow's Museum. At some dates per month, there is a Party called Mar de Música, with free concerts and music presentations at the main floor which can be enjoyed also outside of the building.
  • Disappointing gallery in attractive building.
  • A museum that merits a visit. The landscape view at the roof level is amazing. I liked particularly the integration between modern and old architecture.
  • Enjoyed a wonderful live jazz party here (free entrance). Great view from the rooftop.
