MAR, Rio de Janeiro

4.2
A palace and a former bus station house rehabbed as gallery space house the MAR. Timely exhibitions display contemporary art from local artists alongside historic Latin American masters. A walkway connecting the two buildings is symbolic of the connection between Brazilian and international art. The MAR seeks to foster this connection and draw attention to Brazil’s significant contribution to the art world. • Visit the SEA the same day we visited the Museum of tomorrow with our 6-year-old daughter at the time. It is possible to buy a ticket for these two museums in a "combo" discount. The exhibits are well organized, but if you're with child can be exhausting. Deserves special attention to the incredible view of the Museum of tomorrow and the Guanabara Bay we encountered when accessing the "roof" of the Museum, where you will also find a restaurant.

  • When I went was having an exhibition about indigenous. All the exhibitions are very well organized. The place is clean, air-conditioned and Nice. Book a good time to visit, because the exposures are extensive. Make sure you climb to the top floor to have a beautiful view of the sea. The entrance is cheap, I think $20 and $10 half. It is possible to buy a joint entry to the sea and the Museum Tomorrow with discount.

  • The sea was founded in 2013 and joins a series of renovations in downtown RIO. I bought the combo with the Museum of tomorrow and went on both in the same day. The input is given through an elevator, and you visit the Museum from top to bottom and on top you have a lovely view of the Praça Mauá, the Museum of tomorrow and the Bay of Guanabara. Very beautiful this painting and the architecture of the Sea stands out, to use part of the Villa D John VI, inaugurated in 1916 and in a fluid coverage, joins to school. The exhibits range from time to time and has focused on art, photography and prints, among others. Recommend pay attention to the lifts and your design, very elegant. There's little shop of souvenirs and restaurants.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
