Specialty Museum
A palace and a former bus station house rehabbed as gallery space house the MAR. Timely exhibitions display contemporary art from local artists alongside historic Latin American masters. A walkway connecting the two buildings is symbolic of the connection between Brazilian and international art. The MAR seeks to foster this connection and draw attention to Brazil’s significant contribution to the art world. • The Museum has two completely different styles, but both with magnificent architecture. The exhibitions are very careful and have a very clear proposals. There's an interesting concern relate to social issues in Rio (but not only) with the art, a very interesting dialogue. It is quite accessible and Tuesdays admission is free. Besides the Museum, there is the School of the look, which offers several courses (usually paid) and lectures dealing with various issues, always in the intercept with the art. A tour not to be missed for those who are in Rio de Janeiro, next to several other interesting and historical sights in the city centre. It is also easily accessible via public transport.

  • The Museum is good, is large, the viewpoint this cute. But the truth is that 20 reais to a couple of rooms with contemporary art that could well have been done by children's garden is a little excessive. I love to go to museums and modern art is special, sometimes they are signs that you open the head and others here make you feel ripped off.

  • Little variety and delay in assistance. Didn't leave satisfied. Should be expanded and/or renovated. Regular site
