Lagoon, Rio de Janeiro

4.1
Named in 2012 as one of National Geographic's “25 Wonders of the World," Blue Lagoon has evolved from its infancy as a reservoir of geothermal runoff into a world of geothermal wonder.

The unique properties of its waters provide not only an enchanting lagoon experience, but also the patented, active ingredients in Blue Lagoon skin care: silica, algae, and minerals.

Blue Lagoon is located in a sprawling, 800 year old lava field in the heart of the Reykjanes Peninsula – a UNESCO Geopark. Just 20 minutes from Keflavík International Airport and 50 minutes from Reykjavík, Blue Lagoon is simultaneously remote and easily accessible.

  • Perfect view, great service, good food. The Lagoon has become one of the places that we have to go every time we go in the river. It's worth the investment. A good tip is to go for lunch and stay there until the afternoon.

  • Way too expensive compared to what is offered. One of the few vegetarian only restaurant in Rio is located here though, worth a visit.
  • In my opinion the lagoon complex has the best cinema in the city (only con is that it does not have a 4D or luxurious sofa as NY city center), with very comfortable seats and good quality screens. Also, they have sweet popcorn, missing in most of the venues of Rio. The restaurants upstairs have a balcony overlooking the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon, it cannot get better than this.
  • A space with good restaurants with great view. Theater with several rooms.
  • Awesome place to come with family and friends. Food truck's, restaurants, scenery Nd movie theaters. What else could you ask for? ;)
  • Beautiful and excellent service, but very pricey

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
