Jockey Club, Rio de Janeiro

4.4
#1 of 6 in Casinos in Brazil
Spend an afternoon betting on the best horses in the nation at Jockey Club, where excitement and beauty are served up four times a week. This track, built in the Louis XV style and designed by architect Francisco Couche, saw its first race in 1926. The venue has the capacity to house 80,000 people, and features a horse riding pavilion and a school for apprentice jockeys. From here you can see the Corcovado Mountain and the famous Christ the Redeemer statue nestled on its peak. The racecourse also hosts a mix of sporting events, as well as fashion shows and music concerts. Jockey Club is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Rio de Janeiro Edition.

  • Large, airy, overlooking beautiful everywhere, the Jockey is one of those places to spend the day, lunch (in the Rubayat, there close, better yet!) photograph, watch stunning racing horses, enjoy the Amazons, look for the Christ, dating a lot and still view a simple and cute Kitty at the reception!

  • Elegant track. Fun to watch the races. We ate on patio of onsite restaurant. Delicious steak and sides, 500 ml bottle of beer served in ice bucket! An agent circulated around so you could place bets a...  more »
  • I had lunch at the jockey in the rubayat restaurant I love with a lawn and views with the racehorses passing close service left a little to be desired waiters out of synch but otherwise ok

  • A nice place to feel a little bit of old Rio glamour, and perhaps meet some of those who witnessed it, since the squad in the betting hall are mostly 70+. It is a nice place to spend the end of an afternoon, see a couple of races, the jockeys, the horses, and perhaps end the night in one of the pricey restaurants that can be found within the club's "territory".
  • Went for dinner and drinks with friends and is a very enjoyable place both for a quiet drink and live music
  • Here are the best parties during carneval. Make sure to buy tickets early as they get more expensive with time.
  • Beautiful meadows but old and decadent building
  • Horses only run one lap every 30 minutes 😢

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
