Joa Beach (Joatinga), Rio de Janeiro
(4.6/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Nestled between the famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Joa Beach (Joatinga) is one of the more exclusive beaches in Rio. Once you reach this remote spot in wilderness, you will be awe-struck by 220 m (721 ft) long strip of white sand protected by a cliff. This beach is recommended for experienced swimmers due to its wild waves. You can also view the isolated Joa Beach (Joatinga) from the top of the cliff. Bring your own drinks since the infrastructure at the beach leaves a bit to be desired. A visit to Joa Beach (Joatinga) represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Rio de Janeiro holiday planner to plot your vacation.

  • I was with a colleague and I was impressed with the location, if the tide is low, I certainly don't want to go. One of the most beautiful beaches I could visit.

  • Without doubt is among the top 5 best beaches of Rio. Is a reserved Beach, easy access by car or by bus. Is lindaaa, well attended, with little or no on wheels for you (depending on the season) so it's nice to get some lunch. Your access is given by the stones, so if the tide is high, will hardly be able to get on the beach (but still, for those not familiar, it's worth a visit).

  • Further from the hubbub of the River, but it's worth a go! If you already know the main points of the river.
