(4.6/5 based on 16,000+ reviews on the web)
Noted for its collection of over 6,500 plants from all over the globe, historic Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro also houses Brazil’s largest botanical library. Distributed over an area of 54 hectares (133 acres) and utilizing several large greenhouses, the garden’s collection shelters many endangered and threatened species. The site also includes an important research center and an impressive collection of some of Brazil’s rarest plants. Located at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain, right below the right arm of the Christ the Redeemer statue, the garden is one of UNESCO’s protected biosphere reserves. Stop by to see over 140 species of bids, many of which have become accustomed to humans and are much easier to observe than in the wild. • Visited the gardens in the afternoon. Can visit anytime of the day as lots of shade. Gardens are massive and take a lot of walking to see everything. Had great views of the Christ the redeemer .

  • Best botanic gardens I have ever been to. Waterfalls, trees, it was beautiful. There were 3 wedding photo sessions going on there. So amazing. You'll want to spend a whole afternoon there.
  • This place has a great location within rio as it is just outside the city, this place is great to visit, it has thousands of different kinds of plants and flowers. It's best to go on a cool, cloudy day
  • The Botanical Garden was created to serve the Imperial Family when they moved from Portugal to Brasil - that's why it is so imponent, with its huge imperial palms's mall, the generous trees and plants diversity, and its special areas like the orchidary and the rosarium. You can easily walk half a day by those trees so put your confortable clothes and shoes. There is restrooms, drinkable water, restaurants and snack bars. There is a parking area but it gets full quickly. You can park at jockey's parking on the other side of the street or around Santos Dumont Square.
  • Loved it! Free WiFi and Pokestops galore for you pokemon fans out there!
  • Such a tranquil experience! I loved our time here; only wish we'd have allocated more than 2.5 hours to explore as there was so much to see! Our one concern before going was that we wouldn't be in the right season to see the orchids (there in August), but they were incredible.
