Garden
Noted for its collection of over 6,500 plants from all over the globe, historic Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro also houses Brazil’s largest botanical library. Distributed over an area of 54 hectares (133 acres) and utilizing several large greenhouses, the garden’s collection shelters many endangered and threatened species. The site also includes an important research center and an impressive collection of some of Brazil’s rarest plants. Located at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain, right below the right arm of the Christ the Redeemer statue, the garden is one of UNESCO’s protected biosphere reserves. Stop by to see over 140 species of bids, many of which have become accustomed to humans and are much easier to observe than in the wild. • Absolutely amazing! It was my favourite place from all the ones I visited. My advice is to go early, as its huge and closes early. Also, wear closed, comfortable shoes as the pathways are not paved so...  more »
  • I went out of season so the park was almost empty, but whilst the entire botanical garden is very beautiful, the chief claim to glory is the majestic avenue of royal palms with dizzying length.  more »

  • A heaven of peace in the city. So relaxing the park is huge and very well taken care of. You can just walk around but also learn about the species of trees and exotic plants. Also if you are lucky you can bump into the small monkeys who live up the trees so prepare some bananas to try to interact or even see tucanos flying around. It worth at least 2 hours minimum there to visit even more.
  • It's a good place to relax. A huge variety of plants and trees. Some I saw for the first time. There's a small lake in the centre and it is beautiful. R$ 15 entrance fee. Remember to pick a guide map from the office.
  • A large space with lots of botanical diversity, shade and fresh air in the city. The visit is a must, especially for those who like flowers. Go with comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle. You can visit on hot days because the place is very wooded, leaving fresh environment. Go with time.
  • Nice place for visitors to Rio to get an idea of the Brazilian flora. Occasionally you'll see monkey's and other wildlife too. Not the cheapest attraction at.. But worth visiting.
  • I know a lot of people think of the statue of Jesus when they think of Rio de Janeiro, or samba or beautiful women or all of the above. I believe this place is much more beautiful than any of that. This place is a garden of eden. Filled to the rims with fauna, all shapes, sizes, and colors. Monkeys roam around, I was walking back to the exit and a hummingbird flew right in front of me to drink nectar from a tree in the path. Simply beautiful. There are parts that smell for strong with sweet flower aromas, and they have a selection of orchids from around the world.
