Specialty Museum Museum
Undeniably one of this city's stellar attractions, Fundacao Planetario da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro & Museu do Universo features two state-of-the-art operating domes, each capable of projecting thousands of stars onto its walls. Take an official 40-minute session to see this star-studded show, and learn all about the Universe and the history of space exploration and travel. Bring your children along to take a long peek at the night sky (for free), through the telescopes available in the early evening hours. If you get tired of looking up, walk over to the modern Universe Museum, where you can see the Foucault's Pendulum, enjoy a fictitious adventure in space (highly recommended for kids), take part in a nonfiction show about our solar system, or attend a live concert. This planetarium/museum updates its program frequently and is an ideal escape if your vacation gets rained on, or if you simply have a passion for astronomy. • Terrible service, terrible attraction and bad Museum exhibits. Frustrating. A projection on the ceiling of the dome, if it was for free would be expensive. Want to go to a real Observatory? Go to St. Kitts.

  • It is to be an attractive and fun attraction, especially for curious kids. Unfortunately the site is outdated and does not inform the planetary installations are undergoing reforms. The lack of information of this type can make many visitors miss the trip and, consequently, other interesting tours in Rio.

  • The projection of the Planetarium is attached room called dome and has no function of Planetarium, displaying just a little movie Fink. It is shameful to see facilities that must have consumed many public resources and even 10% of your potential is working. Still snake a very expensive ticket. Various attractions in maintenance. Disappointed! Don't waste your time!

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
