Cinelandia, Rio de Janeiro
(3.3/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Stepping out of the metro station at Cinelandia is like stepping back a hundred years in time, in terms of architecture. In the early 20th century, a series of monumental buildings were erected around the square, including the Municipal Theater, the Brazilian National Library, the Rio de Janeiro Municipality, and the Higher Court. Although the square is officially called Praça Floriano Peixoto, the square is more commonly known as Cinelandia ("Cinema Land") after Spanish entrepreneur Francisco Serrador built a series of tall buildings that concentrated the best cinemas of the city. Most of the cinemas are now closed, but you will still find Cinelandia a lively spot in Rio thanks to its bars, restaurants, and cultural attractions. Arrange your visit to Cinelandia and discover more family-friendly attractions in Rio de Janeiro using our Rio de Janeiro vacation planner.

  • Area Centre contains 5 beautiful buildings built in the early 20th century. It: municipal theatre, the national library, the Museum of fine arts, the building of the Municipal Council and the cultural centre of Justice. I most liked the theatre in the style of Opéra Garnier. They appear district Centre is obliged to Mayor Francisco Pererro Basasu, who in the early twentieth century commanded to carry around 600 houses in order to create the "little Paris" in downtown Rio de Janeiro. Love to France he instilled in his wife, whose homeland was in Paris. The name of the Centre received in year 1923 built here theater-the first in the country. One of the main attractions of Rio. A lot of cafes and restaurants. in the evening of a walk I do not recommend a lot of pickpockets and beggars, vagabonds. Our guide told us that there are constantly robbing tourists.
