Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruínas, Rio de Janeiro

(4.7/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
From its vantage point atop a hill, you have captivating 360-degree views of Rio de Janeiro framed by the empty windows of the old house. Once the opulent residence of Laurinda Santos Lobo, the “Marchioness of Elegance”, Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruínas played host to the most fashionable social gatherings of the time, and, after major restoration work by award-winning architect Ernani Freire, is now a cultural center with an auditorium, gallery, outdoor stage, and its own calendar of interesting events. You can explore the three floors of the former mansion, now a fusion of original brickwork and modern iron structure, or enjoy a coffee in the lovely garden. Having lost none of its splendor, despite the years of abandonment and looting, Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruínas is considered one of the most stunning locations in the city. • The Park of the ruins is a cultural center that sits on top of Santa Teresa, near the Arcos da Lapa and the Salarom staircase, you have wonderful views of the Sugar Loaf Mountain and Guanabara Bay. Worth go and make beautiful pictures. The entrance is free and you can get taxi, uber, or tram 5minutes walking from salarom staircase. A super tip: you can go down to cable car without paying anything, is very worthwhile.

  • The tour we did was a bondino coming out of the Center, very scenic, you go up to the nose can go and then go to the cultural center. The key is to climb through stairs without bondino and then take the free bondino to return.

  • For those who already are in Santa Teresa worth going to the Park since the view is beautiful. However it is not worth to go there just for that especially if you have little time to get to know the city. The view is beautiful, but that's it.

  • Beautiful view, great place for theater and cultural events. Historical landmark, worth visiting. The house of Laurinda Santos Lobo (a high Society personality from the turn of the century). Hosted many events and parties. She inherited money from her uncle – it is speculated that they had an afair. She also financed many inventors, musicians and painters, including Santos Dumont, parallel inventor of the plain.
  • Located in Santa Teresa was the residence of the famous Patron of the Arts from the Rio Belle Époque Laurinda Santos and the best view of the Rio center.
  • Great to see an old icon protected from crumbling away. Love the peacefulness and tranquility of the sound scape winds within the building. Fantastic views of the city, Guanabara Bay and surrounding area.
  • Glamorous, powerful space with a breath taking view of the city of Rio the best it is not the be building but the surroundings. The ruins is was a exquisite house of a famous millionaire and patroness of arts and culture, Laurinda Santos Lobo, the ruins of her amazing house are witness of negligence with our national heritage. TristesTropics!
  • One of the most beautiful views of Rio. During weekends you can bump on events happening around.
