Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruínas, Rio de Janeiro

4.7
From its vantage point atop a hill, you have captivating 360-degree views of Rio de Janeiro framed by the empty windows of the old house. Once the opulent residence of Laurinda Santos Lobo, the “Marchioness of Elegance”, Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruínas played host to the most fashionable social gatherings of the time, and, after major restoration work by award-winning architect Ernani Freire, is now a cultural center with an auditorium, gallery, outdoor stage, and its own calendar of interesting events. You can explore the three floors of the former mansion, now a fusion of original brickwork and modern iron structure, or enjoy a coffee in the lovely garden. Having lost none of its splendor, despite the years of abandonment and looting, Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruínas is considered one of the most stunning locations in the city. Many paths lead us to Santa Teresa. After taking an excellent breakfast in the Cafe of the high (largo dos Guimaraes) it's time to walk to lose calories purchased at cafe ... get down walking towards the largo do Curvelo, if the tram, the next station and then head to the right until you find a slope going up the left. Soon find the entrance to the Park of Ruins where you will have an amazing vision and understand why the city receive this title. The view includes the baia de Guanabara, rio-niterói bridge, downtown ... Then come back for the same slope and continues its descent to the right until you reach the famous Selaron steps and try a tasty lunch in The restaurant Ximenes Northeast left the end of the staircase and try the carne-de-sol with baiao two ... Very nice and well served. Enjoy this day that I'm sure don't regret it.

A great time to make with children, during the day, take the Santa Teresa tram near the Largo da Carioca and jump in Largo do Curvelo. Walk a little to the Park and see how the little enchanted with the ruins. The annex of the Chácara do Céu is also very interesting for the kids, especially the gardens. The trip by cable car, which runs on top of the Arcos da Lapa, is the highlight for the kids.

Beautiful view, great place for theater and cultural events. Historical landmark, worth visiting. The house of Laurinda Santos Lobo (a high Society personality from the turn of the century). Hosted many events and parties. She inherited money from her uncle – it is speculated that they had an afair. She also financed many inventors, musicians and painters, including Santos Dumont, parallel inventor of the plain.

Located in Santa Teresa was the residence of the famous Patron of the Arts from the Rio Belle Époque Laurinda Santos and the best view of the Rio center.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
