Catacumba Park, Rio de Janeiro

4.5
#31 of 71 in Parks in Rio de Janeiro
Designed as a sculpture park, Catacumba Park is also a tropical forest with many hiking trails under a lush canopy of native trees. You can always find cooler temperatures and a constant shade from the hot Brazilian sun here. After viewing sculptures in the lower section of the park, take a scenic trail up the hill, at top of which a panoramic view of the Lagoa district and the mountains of Dois Irmaos and Pedra da Gavea opens up. From here you can also see the iconic Christ the Redeemer Statue. This park was developed on the site of a former favela, and currently offers a number of adventures to visitors, from rock-climbing and rappelling, to zip-lining and canopy walks through the treetops. • The Parque da Catacumba is an ecological reserve on the banks of the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon. On site are garden areas with paths and picturesque alleys, in tune with the dense vegetation which extends for the full length of the Park. You can make several excursions, picnic and hiking. Not to be missed.

  • The Park is very close to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. There are several works of art laid out the Park, and green, with small trails. There is a small Zipline. Access to the Park is free. The Tyrolean ticket is paid.

  • The Park has a trail that leads to a viewpoint, but it is the first trial of an increase too. It's not for anyone.

  • Amazing view of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, after an easy, but steep trail. There is also some interesting scultures around
  • ✨ Beautiful view from the top of the trail, a great place to watch the sunset. 🌱 A shaded park with ample space for activities, equipped with climbing and canopy courses (paid) as well as free, natural spaces for picnics or physical exercise such as BodyBy Yoga or BodyBy Karate. 🎈Experience RIO the Wanderlust Way #WanderlustGeneration #WanderlustCulture
  • Free to enter, play or hike. Small fee for zip line, climbing wall. Great for families or birthday parties.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
