Carmen Miranda Museum, Rio de Janeiro

(1/5 based on 50 reviews on the web)
Travel back to the 1940s at Carmen Miranda Museum, a museum entirely dedicated to the glamorous Hollywood actress and singer Carmen Miranda. Located in the Flamengo neighborhood on Avenida Rui Barbosa, the museum displays Miranda's knockout original costumes, jewelry, and famous five-inch-high, sequin-covered shoes. Out of over 3,000 personal items, the museum staff has chosen nearly 200--including records, movie posters, and photos--for the permanent exhibition. Watch clips from her filmography or take pictures next to her statue, standing just outside the museum building. There's so much to see in this circular building designed by modernist architect Affonso Eduardo Reidy, you may not be able to get through it all in one day. So stop by again on a rainy day--admission is free. • Unfortunately, I don't appreciate a woman who released the Brazil immensely. Don't lose hope because you can reopen any time.

  • I think it's wonderful that the Museum exists, but there is no information that it was closed. I had to personally go and see.
