Travel back to the 1940s at Carmen Miranda Museum, a museum entirely dedicated to the glamorous Hollywood actress and singer Carmen Miranda. Located in the Flamengo neighborhood on Avenida Rui Barbosa, the museum displays Miranda's knockout original costumes, jewelry, and famous five-inch-high, sequin-covered shoes. Out of over 3,000 personal items, the museum staff has chosen nearly 200--including records, movie posters, and photos--for the permanent exhibition. Watch clips from her filmography or take pictures next to her statue, standing just outside the museum building. There's so much to see in this circular building designed by modernist architect Affonso Eduardo Reidy, you may not be able to get through it all in one day. So stop by again on a rainy day--admission is free. • This museum is CLOSED and has been for some time. Don't try and go. There's a sign saying its closed for our security - not sure what that means - and no idea when it will reopen.  more »
  • The guards at the museum said that hopefully the contents of the museum will be moved to a central city location soon. Let's hope it's to a location that is easier to find.  more »
  • Have no idea why we visited this hard-to-find, out-of-the-way museum. It was a complete waste of time, a tacky, cheesy, dusty display. Do yourself a favor: STAY AWAY!  more »

  • Result of multiple fills to gain ground to the sea, made during the 1920s, the beach of Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro is formed by a wide strip of fine white sand and a sea so calm that makes it a formidable body of water where at sunset are reflected the lights of the city. The beautiful landscape is crowned by the vision of the bread of sugar and the morro de Urca in the background, showing from this beach in all its glory.

  • Super quiet place for my pets

  • Dark place, has only black lights as lighting. The feeling is to be going into a House of prostitution. Karaoke sound with noise. Underserved portions and aspect of the dirty kitchen. Only a waiter who didn't leave the counter to serve. It is necessary to get the drink. And as if that wasn't enough, the owner still calculates the value of the commands. The error happened with me and then with two friends. It was necessary to complain.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
