Botafogo Beach, Rio de Janeiro

(200+ reviews on the web)
Beach Nature / Park
Located in the Guanabara Bay and famous for its golden sands, Botafogo Beach is sheltered from the Atlantic Ocean and its winds by the Sugarloaf Mountain, one of the city’s most famous backdrops. This crescent-shaped beach is a popular spot for family photographs. Few people choose to swim here as private boats use this part of the bay for docking. There are educational sites for you to visit here, though, such as the Museu do Índio, which explores the culture and history of the major indigenous peoples of Brazil. You can also drop by the Villa-Lobos Museum, honoring the life and achievement of one of the most significant creative figures in 20th-century Brazilian music.
