Beco das Sardinhas, Rio de Janeiro

3.6
Enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Beco das Sardinhas, situated on a historic pedestrian-only street in the city’s center. This cobblestoned "Sardine Alley" is home to numerous restaurants serving hot food right on the pavement. The place is busy and noisy, offering a taste of genuine Brazilian street life. At this site you can try the famous "frango maritime," or chicken of the sea, which is simply a dish of fresh sardines opened lengthwise, breaded, and then deep fried. These restaurants are open all day and often allow local bands to perform live music late into the night. Stop by for a tasty hot meal and a refreshing drink before exploring more of this city district rich in history and culture. • It was with a colleague who knew the place. Excellent sardines empanadas, sardines. The Octopus garlic oil very good too. Recommend for those that don't have the time and want to eat fast and good.

  • I had the opportunity to meet the site during a traditional June party. Many stalls selling typical foods and of course the famous fried sardines. Many music and the tables full of so many people during a winter afternoon. I found it very interesting.

  • There are times I wanted to go to this place as well known in downtown Rio de Janeiro. Simple, with tables on the sidewalk, busy, with several different restaurants, one on top of the other. The sardine was great

  • It took 50 minutes to get there. I ordered fish, rice with broccoli and mashed. QD reached the plate of Broccoli Rice had bacon. I don't eat bacon. As no bacon on the menu and on the plate coming? Must be headed by some crazy.

  • 1 hour to make the request. The price doesn't match the dishes offered. Farm meat very bad, full of nerve. In the end I gave up lunch

  • Nice for a birthday celebration, for example. Accepts large reserves and has good options of the meat dishes, rib barbecue is the most famous. Price a little expensive, can't go always. Has a German pie ice cream with dulce de leche which is delicious.

  • Terrible service, food takes 40 minutes to be served, place tight, noisy, basic dishes with international prices.

  • Good food and good service of the waiters. The service already in the box, it's the same (lack of) sympathy ever.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
