Baltazar who was a devotee of our Lady, called for help to the Holy and right now there's a lizard that has fought the fight with the serpent. In gratitude, the captain built a small chapel on the site where you put the image of our Lady. Later Baltazar donated all its properties to the Church, and so created the Venerable Brotherhood of Our Lady of Penha, in the year 1728. In relation to the Chapel, there were two local interventions, being demolished original Chapel. Around 1900, the temple was expanded, gaining two towers and a chime with 25 bells. In 1817, Maria Barbosa climbed the stone to go to church and promised that if God would grant him a son would send carve granite Cliff staircase to facilitate access by devotees at the Shrine. The following year Mrs. Maria got pregnant and in 1819 the 382 steps were carved in stone. The Church does not follow a defined architectural style due to successive reforms, with Gothic strokes. There are galleries on Arch on both sides and Windows framed in stonework. Its two towers are quadrangular pyramid-shaped. Maybe its beauty is in the simplicity. Internally the pulpit in woodwork and a large stained-glass window. There are still works in stucco on the ceiling. The whole Church is adorned by 3600 lamps, which are lit during the feast of the Patron Saint. From 1 to 31 October 2016 there will be the 381ª feast of our Lady of Penha, which happens every year, with lunch, stalls, concerts and masses. All programming is available on the internet.show original
