Trip Planner: South America / Brazil / State of Rio de Janeiro / Rio de Janeiro / Barra da Tijuca Beach
With over 15 km (9 miles) of white sand met by clear, blue-green ocean, Barra da Tijuca Beach is the largest beach in Rio de Janeiro, and the farther along it you go, the more deserted it becomes. The agitated waters attract surfers, windsurfers, body boarders, kite surfers, and fishing enthusiasts, and there is a high energy about the busier stretch, where you will see young people playing beach volleyball and soccer. In need of refreshment, you should visit Pepe, named in honor of the late champion hang-glider and regular of Barra da Tijuca Beach, where you will find great sandwiches and fresh natural juices. The quieter sweep of beach provides you with a tranquil paradise, and while it may not have many facilities, nor does it have any crowds. Praia bonita limpa e mar bem transparente, os barzinhos nas calçadas tem uma estrutura maravilhosa, mas os kiosques que atende os banhistas não tem estrutura nenhuma, deixa muito a desejar more »Beautiful beach clean and clear sea, the bars on the sidewalks have a wonderful structure, but the kiosques that caters to bathers has no structure, leaves much to be desired
One of the best beaches in Rio quite long and clean. Try to pick up a spot far from bus stops to avoid a crowded area. Parking sometimes and during weekends can be a challenge. Amazing sunset mood.
Very beautiful and clean beach. This beach is quite long and has lots of kiosks to get drinks and snacks. It's less crowded than Copacabana/Ipanema and has fewer people trying to sell you stuff. I just wanted to sit on the beach or go running on the long, safe path, so Barra was perfect for me - the water has a very dangerous undertow so swimmers must take care! I was here alone every day and felt perfectly safe. A beautiful, relaxing spot.
I like the beach but I like Ipanema more. It's still a nice place, the water is very clean although the sea was dangerous the day I was there.
