Barra Beach, Rio de Janeiro

(4.7/5 based on 2,600+ reviews on the web)
With over 15 km (9 miles) of white sand met by clear, blue-green ocean, Barra Beach is the largest beach in Rio de Janeiro, and the farther along it you go, the more deserted it becomes. The agitated waters attract surfers, windsurfers, body boarders, kite surfers, and fishing enthusiasts, and there is a high energy about the busier stretch, where you will see young people playing beach volleyball and soccer. In need of refreshment, you should visit Pepe, named in honor of the late champion hang-glider and regular of Barra Beach, where you will find great sandwiches and fresh natural juices. The quieter sweep of beach provides you with a tranquil paradise, and while it may not have many facilities, nor does it have any crowds. • This was definitely the beach cleaner than I was, it was possible to see your feet in the sand in the water. I was at a kiosk right in front of the beach, where I had the best portion of shrimp and fish of RJ, the songs were awesome, everything was perfect that day.

  • The beach is clean, clean sand, crystal clear water. The price at the kiosks is much more into account than in the most famous beach as copa, Ipanema, Leblon etc.. for those who don't like very strong waves is perfect! You can stay all day in the water enjoying the sea. Simply marvelous! It's not much frequented by tourists, from what I understand the cariocas dominate there. No wonder, because the beach is excellent.

  • A beach with large expanse of white sand, less crowded than the South and cleaner. There are more quiet and more exciting jobs but in general it's a great place for those looking to enjoy a beach with structure and without a crowd.
