Barra Beach, Rio de Janeiro

4.7
With over 15 km (9 miles) of white sand met by clear, blue-green ocean, Barra Beach is the largest beach in Rio de Janeiro, and the farther along it you go, the more deserted it becomes. The agitated waters attract surfers, windsurfers, body boarders, kite surfers, and fishing enthusiasts, and there is a high energy about the busier stretch, where you will see young people playing beach volleyball and soccer. In need of refreshment, you should visit Pepe, named in honor of the late champion hang-glider and regular of Barra Beach, where you will find great sandwiches and fresh natural juices. The quieter sweep of beach provides you with a tranquil paradise, and while it may not have many facilities, nor does it have any crowds. • The post bar 3 is the best place to pick up a beach. Familiar with local restaurants nearby. Very quiet and safe. Get there early to get the region's parking spot. Best beach in Rio, good place to chill out all day, safe place, but gets crowded after 12:00 am. Good restaurants nearby.

  • The beach is not easy, more taking care not to go to the bottom and obeying the signals, is a safe place for a sea bath, has lifeguard always attentive, bathrooms by the Waterside, many kiosks with varying prices, young environment.

Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Accommodations in Rio de Janeiro cover as diverse a spectrum as the city itself. At the top end, you can find plenty of luxury hotels along the beaches of Zona Sul, the city's southern zone, which includes the renowned Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. For something to suit a budget, but with good beach access, look around the less crowded neighborhoods of Catele and Flamengo. If you want to stay as centrally as possible, without feeling like you're in a business district, look for lodgings in the colorful, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa.
