Arco do Teles, Rio de Janeiro

(4.1/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Located in the center of Rio among colonial buildings, you will find Arco do Teles, the last of the many arches that once existed in town. Feel how things were in Rio back in the 1910’s as you walk under this arch set between buildings 32 and 34. The residents of Rio flocked there in devotion to an image of Our Lady of Joy, hidden in a crevice within the arch. Stroll through the arch surrounded by good food, wine shops, and libraries. Enjoy a beer during happy hour, a popular spot for locals to meet after work. • This arch, belonging to the former residence of Telles de Menezes family, communicates the Plaza XV with the Travessa do Comércio, by which you reach Rua do Ouvidor. Both streets are animated by many "botecos", typical bars from Rio de Janeiro, offering menus at affordable prices. Is worth it penalty take it slowly, enjoying of the shadow, them streets cobbled and them houses ancient of the old River of Janeiro. Leaving the area, is the open part of the XV square, next to the pier, that is also worth a visit.

  • The arc of the Teles is brilliant! A history point, which could be better preserved, however, the samba is great, people are very relaxed and receptive. Ride to see and meet locals, no doubt. Recommended!!

  • A pity that a historical site is abandoned and turned hosting street residents.
