Ostras River, Rio das Ostras

3.9
#1 of 6 in Nature in Rio das Ostras
Also known as the “City of Jazz”, Ostras River is a fast growing city with a lot to offer its visitors. With solid infrastructure in place to receive tourists, the city has many good hotels, inns, and restaurants. The many beaches are great for swimming, surfing, kite surfing, and the calmer beaches are perfect for the children. Check out the attractions like Whale Square, where there is a bronze humpback whale statue, Tocolândia for local crafts and souvenirs, and the River Oysters Jazz & Blues Fest. If you prefer not to drive, there are several vans which circulate along the beach path to the city center, making it really convenient to take in the entire city. Ostras River is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Rio das Ostras Edition.

  • Hostel Costa del Sol and a Lady of 90 years, ZERO administration! Dirty rooms, bathroom with mud and clogged (shower overflowed causing the water almost past the balcony) the water for our feet. Air conditioning not working, had to be replaced at midnight and still malfunctioning. A true disorder, except attendants and the view from the balcony.

  • A beautiful beach (boca da barra) and the rest. With the exception of the quarry after whale beach. Just has a really good restaurant in town, the Bartrô; I went in 3 result on beira mar (moon, Rico and rump from the beach) in which they served me a gold respectively to la belle meunere with vegetables literally floating in oil and with 0 like fish (oil), a "fish on" that was done and then breaded put on plate (laughs) and u Ma paella with sausage bacon and chicken. There's only supermarket on main street. The Mall is a shame. Depressing bar options. Nightlife lies in peace. But the city is more or less cute.

Where to stay in Rio das Ostras

As a growing seaside resort destination, Rio das Ostras features a blend of old and new, glitzy and down-to-earth in terms of places to stay. The majority of the city's larger hotels and more glamorous resort-style accommodations lie within a few blocks of the main beaches, and the area along the Praia Costa Azul features a particular concentration. As you might imagine, many hotels charge extra for an ocean view, so consider requesting a room without one to save a bit on lodging. As is the case throughout Brazil, you'll find plenty of "pousadas"--something like independently run, small-scale hotels, bed and breakfasts, and guesthouses--scattered around town, which often make solid budget options.
