Mar do Norte Beach, Rio das Ostras

#3 of 13 in Beaches in Rio das Ostras
Mar do Norte Beach is a wonderful place for a nice walk with a good stretch of sand and stunning visuals. It’s an almost virgin beach with only one kiosk so it’s a good idea to bring everything with you that you will need. The water is usually calm with a gorgeous visual overlooking the rocks. This is peaceful place of natural beauty where you can truly get away from it all. Plan to see Mar do Norte Beach and other attractions that appeal to you using our Rio das Ostras journey planner.

  • One of my favorites! Clean, quiet ... Take parasol because there's no trees, but it's perfect for kids because it's gentle.

  • The North Sea lies between Rio das Ostras and Macaé. It has a large beach, with kiosk and structure and other small wild beaches.

Where to stay in Rio das Ostras

As a growing seaside resort destination, Rio das Ostras features a blend of old and new, glitzy and down-to-earth in terms of places to stay. The majority of the city's larger hotels and more glamorous resort-style accommodations lie within a few blocks of the main beaches, and the area along the Praia Costa Azul features a particular concentration. As you might imagine, many hotels charge extra for an ocean view, so consider requesting a room without one to save a bit on lodging. As is the case throughout Brazil, you'll find plenty of "pousadas"--something like independently run, small-scale hotels, bed and breakfasts, and guesthouses--scattered around town, which often make solid budget options.
