  • The square is in the neighborhood of Derby, near to the city centre. Well wooded square and bucolic-looking. Doesn't seem to be in a place so busy. Has a few playgrounds for children and several banks. It is important to have enough attention to security.

  • PLAZA DO DERBY El Barrio Derby began to form at the end of century XIX on the grounds of the rooms that belonged to Henrique days, leader of the black soldiers who fought from 1644 against the Dutch invaders and that had been donated him by the King of Portugal. In 1888, the Sociedad Hípica Derby Club, built a trail horse race which was later deactivated to build there a large market. In 1900 the market was destroyed by fire and in 1924 it was restored and became the headquarters of the military police of Pernambuco. The following year the Derby Plaza was built between 1935 and 37 was redesigned by the landscape architect Burle Marx.
