  • CAPELA DOURADA - r. do Imperador D. Pedro II 206 - district of Santo Antonio Catholic Church considered the ultimate expression of the city's baroque religious art. Chapel of the third order of San Francisco (i.e. of the novices) who settled in Recife in the 15TH century. Built in Baroque style between 1696 and 1724, is one of the best of Brazil. The current decoration dates back to the 17TH and 18TH centuries and owes its name to the large amount of gold used in its decoration and to every inch of its interior, walls, ceilings, niches, altarpieces, altars, wood carvings, sculptures and paintings are covered by sheets of 22-karat gold. In the sacristy there is furniture in wood rosewood of 1762 and a table with marble from the same period. Visits: Monday to Friday from 8 to 11: 30 and from 14 to 17 pm and Saturdays from 8 to 11: 30 pm

  • From the outside, nobody gives anything for the chapel. Upon entering, we came across a breathtaking Baroque work. All coated with gold leaf, is indescribably beautiful. A surprise, which contrasts with the outside so devalued. Worth a visit, sit on the bench and say a prayer. You can't take pictures with flash because flash wears the jacket ... so come, pray and record every bit with your memory. Give yourself the luxury of exploring the swirls and decorations, and capture each image from the best angle. You'll be amazed!
