  • The Manor of Camera, previously named Villa the Visconde de Pelotas is a historical and cultural building, is located at rua Duque de Caxias, 968 in the historic centre of porto Alegre, it was built between 1818 and 1824 as a residence the Fernandes Pinheiro, then Inspector of the Alfãndega of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, Viscount of São Leopoldo and first President of the province of São Pedro do Sul , who lived at the site until your death in 1847. In 1851 the second Viscount of pelotas, José Antônio Correia da Câmara married and came to live in the House and in 1874 the residence has undergone a major renovation and the original style was adapted to suit the dominant neoclassical taste of the period, so the building was enlarged and the internal environments have received several modifications and refinements that included new chandeliers, velvet curtains , decorations, lace, carpets and crystals. In 1889 after the proclamation of the Republic the second Viscount of Pelotas was sworn in as first Governor of the State of Rio Grande do Sul and knighted the following year as Marshal so that solar is one of the foci of the remained political power in Rio Grande do Sul until 1893, when the Marshal Board died. The third and final resident of the manor was the professor and politician Armando Pereira Correa da Câmara, grandson of the second Viscount of Pelotas and great-grandson of Viscount of São Leopoldo, anti-Communist politician and Christian formation, he was an important political leader, Senator, Rector of the University of Rio Grande do Sul and first Rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul. The mansion was the scene of meetings and political meetings that have marked the history of the State and of Brazil and in 1963 the building was listed by IPHAN, as well as your historical value, became the oldest remnant of the 19TH century residential architecture in Porto Alegre.
