  • A museum that appeals particularly to the Gauchos, as it brings together unique memories of this rather peculiar State. It is located in the former residence of this worthy Republican, who received it from his friends, being a person of scarce resources, which left the Government personally poor.

  • The Museum Júlio de Castilho is one of the oldest museums in the State and has an incredible collection that tells a little of the history of Rio Grande do Sul, I was enthralled with objects and documents regarding the war of tatters and on top as I went on Monday, the entry was free. Worth knowing.

  • Created in 1903, the Júlio de Castilhos Museum is the oldest Museum of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The Museum gathers in your collection copies of missionary 18th century statuary; pieces relating to the war of tatters; objects, documents and photos that have marked the political career of Júlio de Castilhos, President of the State, as well as your bedroom and your Office; and indigenous artifacts.

  • The museum itself is not particularly impressive, but the building is really nice and somewhat unique among all the surrounding high-rises. There is little to connect or contextualise the various objects, but in a way there are also some signs of care in the way the whole thing is kept.
  • The four stars are for the building. There are some cool historical objects here, especially from the Guarani in the Seven Missions area. As a history nut I was very excited to visit this museum but, unfortunately, it is half-abandoned, like many others in Brazil. Next to the cathedral and Marechal Deodoro Park. Free entry, so definitely worth the visit.
  • A lot of history badly presented. Some rooms are almost bare and the more interesting exhibits are in darkness. In need of someone with vision to bring it to life. Better use of space, decent lighting, a café and a shop would help.
  • One of the oldest museums of the city, the Júlio de Castilhos exposes parts of various local artists and is exhibit space with frequency.

  • Failed to open on time, so I had to come back later. The acquis is Rico, beautiful pieces of the revolution and pre history.
