  • Besides the old building, its interior is very interesting, it found several indigenous parts of the South, as well as the room of Julio de Castilhos., a visit interesting.

  • Júlio de Castilhos Museum is considered the oldest Museum of Rio Grande do Sul. He was conceived by Júlio Prates de Castilhos, former Governor of the State, who died in 1903, and which gave its name to the Museum in 1907. The Museum is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 to 18 hours, with free admission. Its collection is comprised of furniture and historical parts, documents, works of art, collections of Zoology, botany and mineralogy and indigenous objects, among others. The Museum has a reputation for being haunted, because the own Julio de Castilhos died there after a surgery, in 1903, and his wife, Angela, committed suicide two years later, in one of its rooms. Just in case, is worth to be visited.

  • Not worth going just for him, but if you go pass the praça da matriz, Piratini Palace, Legislative Assembly and the other located in Duque de Caxias and surroundings.

  • The four stars are for the building. There are some cool historical objects here, especially from the Guarani in the Seven Missions area. As a history nut I was very excited to visit this museum but, unfortunately, it is half-abandoned, like many others in Brazil. Next to the cathedral and Marechal Deodoro Park. Free entry, so definitely worth the visit.
  • A lot of history badly presented. Some rooms are almost bare and the more interesting exhibits are in darkness. In need of someone with vision to bring it to life. Better use of space, decent lighting, a café and a shop would help.
