Metropolitan Cathedral, Porto Alegre
(4.5/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
The most immediately striking feature of Metropolitan Cathedral--an early 20th-century neoclassical cathedral--is the frontpiece adorned with colorful mosaics. The mosaics depict the history of the catholic church in Brazil, and they help to relieve the somber character of this otherwise imposing building. Inside you will find two huge and intricate stained glass windows and a beautiful Baroque statue of the Virgin and Child, enshrined against a mural by Aldo Locatelli. In general, however, the decoration avoids ostentation, preferring instead to let the elegant proportions and geometric details of the architecture speak for themselves. • The Cathedral is beautiful on the outside, with its massive construction and his paintings. You get lost in so much detail. Inside is nice too, but nothing amazing. Worth the visit.

  • The Metropolitan Cathedral of Porto Alegre is a work of art! A beautiful building, with beautiful stained glass Windows, statues, and images that make us thrilled. The main ship is wonderful! I hope you always be preserved!

  • Internally is very beautiful. Externally it is with reasonable conservation. You must meet her. However, the surroundings (Center), including the square in front, are in a bad state of conservation and care must be taken especially at night.
