  • Just a monument of great value to the city, with room to sit at your surroundings and ensure good photos, laterally the headboard from Salgado Filho airport. Worth for the photos and a bit of rest, but does not have security to ensure better appreciation of the work and the view.

  • The statue of the Roper is a monument featuring the figure of the Gaucho traditionally pilchar and which was conceived for the exhibition of the IV centenary of the founding of the city of São Paulo, Ibirapuera Park where a call for tenders for the execution of a sculpture that served as a symbol of Rio Grande do Sul. The original sculpture contest winner was built in plaster by Antônio Caringi artist and was exposed in the central space of the Pavilion of Rio Grande do Sul, after the event, was supposed to offer the sculpture to the city of São Paulo, however such was the size of the reception of the work by the own Gauchos that there was an intense popular demand for the work was installed in Porto Alegre. The curiosity is that the sculptor used as a model for your work at the time, the young folklorist Passion cuts, culturador of Gaucho traditions and customs and that posed wearing all the traditional outfit. The definitive work that was installed in Porto Alegre was sculpted in bronze and inaugurated on 20 September 1958, commemorative of the Farroupilha Revolution, was located in the square of the firefighter and media 4.45 meters in height, weighed 3.8 tons and was mounted on a granite pedestal of 2.10 metres high. In 1992, was defined as official symbol of Porto Alegre by municipal law and in 2001 was declared as historical patrimony in Porto Alegre. After 48 years at the original location, located on avenida dos Estados, São João district, North of the city, the statue would be moved in the day 11 March 2007 to the ropes, in front of the first terminal of the Salgado Filho international airport, on the same Avenue, but at a distance of 600 metres from your old site and the reason for the transfer of the symbol of Porto Alegre was the construction of the viaduct passing on-site Leonel Brizola where the statue stood. The Roper sits on top of a coxilha and the Statue remains in a higher location, thereby becoming visible to all people who arrive to Porto Alegre for the BR 116.
