Da Praia Street, Porto Alegre

(440+ reviews on the web)
Landmark Tourist Spot
With wonderfully preserved red, black, and white granite mosaics along the pavement, you must literally watch where you walk as you stroll down the oldest street in Porto Alegre. Officially called Rua dos Andradas, Da Praia Street is how you will hear locals refer to it, a throwback to when the street ran directly parallel to the shore of Lago Guaíba. As the heart of the city, the street has a lively atmosphere and it is always bustling with people and has numerous cafés, restaurants, and shops including the famous Livraria do Globo. It is also home to several significant attractions, among which you will find Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, one of the largest cultural centers in Brazil, and Igreja Nossa Senhora das Dores, the oldest church still standing in Porto Alegre. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Porto Alegre holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Da Praia Street and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • It's one of the main veins of POA. If you work in downtown POA you certainly walk this street to go out for lunch, go to the bank, go shopping... It's a promenade, no cars allowed.  more »
  • Rua da Praia is a traditional commerce area of Porto Alegre. You can find lots of stores on this street. It is a place to walk down town and sight see Porto Alegre  more »
  • It used to be the "point" of Porto Alegre where boys and girls walk and flirt. Today is not as nice as it was before and there is serious concerns about safety day and night.  more »
