Cervejaria Bohemia, Petropolis

4.4
#1 of 27 in Breweries in Brazil
Tour the first brewery in Brazil and sample five different beers at Cervejaria Bohemia. See brewing vats and pipes, fermentation and filtration tanks, and enjoy samples in the beer garden (which also offers food). Founded by a German settler in 1853, the brewery is now controlled by a Belgian-Brazilian multinational company, producing lighter and less bitter beers than the original. A museum of beer-making details the trade since the Babylonian times. Check out old-timer beer distribution trucks and browse through barrels and bottles, or simply enjoy a great meal at the restaurant. Very nice environment and climate. Great service. I've been on a Sunday that was having Roda de Samba, sensational. I don't live in Petropolis but I intend to go back.

This was one of the best parts of my visit in Petropolis. The first half of the tour is a museum of the history and science of beer. The displays are in Portuguese, but almost all of them have English translations. The displays were beautiful and informative. The last half is a guided tour. Our guide spoke in Portuguese, which was difficult for me. However, most of the displays were straightforward enough and interesting enough that I wasn't bored and didn't feel left out. After the guided tour, we were given a flight of 3 different beers to taste (and children were given juice so they didn't feel left out). The gift shop had many great gifts for me to bring back home. The restaurant had great vegetarian options (and of course, beer), and the service was excellent. I highly recommend you do this tour!

We had our high school reunion there today (01/04/2017). What a mistake! The food was terrible. It took a long time for people to get served. My pasta was raw! My husband's burger was dry and the fries were cold and soggy. My friend got the desert and had to wait a good twenty minutes for the utensils. We were asked to move from the place we were for two hours. The manager (a lady), moved us to the varanda. We did. It was COLD! Not long after that, we were asked to move again! Unbelievable! My classmates and myself, right then and there, decided never put foot on that place again! Too bad... the place is beautiful and the beer is superb.

Boring.. Not compare with other brewery museas. On top. If you not want to listen to the boring stuff you not get the one glass free beer on the end ha ha ha what a joke.

Interesting museum that relates the complete process of brewing beer. You will have the possibility to taste some different flavor of beers during the visit. The restaurant at the upper floor serve excellent quality of food. However a little too salty for me. The bar is intresting but wheb it is crawded you will probably have to be patient for you beer.

Service was not great. The staff took my order several times and then never came back. 2/3rds of the menu was out of stock. They refused to give me certain beers even though I could see other tables drinking them.

Where to stay in Petropolis

Unfortunately, no matter how much you're willing to spend, your accommodations in Petropolis won't be quite as luxurious as Emperor Pedro's former palace. Nevertheless, you can choose from a range of delightful guesthouses and boutique hotels during your Petropolis vacation, many of which are housed in well-preserved colonial buildings and offer spacious gardens to enjoy. The city's old center, with close proximity to the palace and the striking cathedral, remains the most popular neighborhood among tourists. However, you can also find a range of places to stay in the southwestern neighborhood of Quitandinha, which contains a scenic lake of the same name.
