Museu do Sertao, Petrolina

(1.8/5 based on 90+ reviews on the web)
Close to the city center, Museu do Sertao is rich in regional history and showcases a collection of over 3,000 works of art. In this museum, which aims to preserve the region’s rich cultural and artistic heritage, you can see exhibits of local handcrafts, photographs, models of rural housing, home decorations, and paintings. This small yet important cultural center offers a rare view into the world of Brazil’s indigenous people and the exotic plant and animal life that once surrounded their isolated backcountry communities. Bring the whole family for an educational trip in time and an important lesson about technological developments that transformed the parched savanna of colonial days into a modern productive area of recent years. • I couldn't see because I was closed throughout the Carnival. The town full of tourists, wanting to know the attractions and the Museum closed.

  • Closed for renovations, the months according to the locals. No forecast of reopening. Without informative card at the entrance.

  • Very nice, in addition to being a free program, full of memories of the past, such as antique furniture, clothing of the outlaws and description very well made of exposed objects. It is certainly a throwback of the region, being too small, but well worth the visit.
