Pelotas

Princess of the South

Rich in architectural sights and natural attractions, the city of Pelotas is the third-largest in the state, and enjoys an attractive position by the Lagoa dos Patos. The town grew from its colonial roots thanks to a strong agricultural economy, with the relatively flat land of the areas close to local water sources being fertile and strategically placed for trade. The wealth accrued was reinvested into what are now some of Pelotas's main attractions: its historic buildings. Cultural exhibits now fill many of the old colonial-era buildings, with local museums, galleries, and performance spaces located within the Baroque landmarks. Our Brazil vacation builder tool allows you to schedule your trip to Pelotas, learn about its attractions, and find out about where else to go during your holiday.

Where to stay in Pelotas

The Porto and Centro districts, just north of Canal de Sao Goncalo, represent the most popular places to stay for visitors to the city. Comfortable chain hotels sit on grand boulevards, while simpler, more humble offerings can be found on the districts' side streets, including hostels and pousadas (guesthouses). Heading east, motels along the Av. Adolfo Fetter provide good options for those wanting to explore the surrounding landscape, as well as the main urban areas. Still farther to the east, you'll find comfortable pousadas next to the lagoon's beach.
