Museu Forte Defensor Perpetuo de Paraty, Paraty

Your walk to Museu Forte Defensor Perpetuo de Paraty will be accompanied by the singing of birds and views of the lands below that will make you swoon. The museum itself has two rooms: one exhibits the tradition of local dance and music, while the other is dedicated to the history and uses of the fort. On the grounds you'll find cannons pointing towards the ocean and a flat lawn that hosts visiting artist exhibits. Look for a tall, knobbed tree trunk just outside the fort's stone wall. Its twisted wood is a bizarre addition to the area. This is the place with the best view of Paraty. The day I was there was the exhibition on the birds of Paraty.

No parking place and a moderate climb no sidewalk to the Fort. From the top you have a beautiful view of the Bay of Paraty. On the day of the visit the Museum Hall was empty, according to an official, to exchange exhibition.

Leaves a little to be desired because of Strong, all you have are some Cannon supported on the floor. However, has a very good view of the city, for photographs is a very good point. But my kids were disappointed for not being a real strong.

A vista la em cima é muita linda ! Where: Forte Defensor Perpétuo, Paraty What: A battle fort How was it: Paraty in general is really nice. It's great they they protect this place and reserve the current style. There has been many new construction in Brazil and though it's good for business they have lost their identity along the way (or perhaps created a new one - but that's another debate). The hilltop of this fort with the canons is really great. We recommend you visit this place when in Paraty. It's a great contrast to the city centre and you will enjoy it, we're sure. Grade: Eli = 4, Serge = 4 Recommend: Yes

My wife & I arrived from British Columbia last November. We explored & geocached our way from Intervales Park to Paraty. A very well kept display. Old cannons poised for battle are positioned around the small fort's perimeter. A shaded walk gradually takes you up from the limited roadside parking just above the town of Paratay. Well worth visiting. We enjoyed watching the small monkeys that inhabit the surrounding foliage. The fort itself offers not only a historic sense of place but also some terrific evelated views out over the ocean. A great time of year to visit, this Canadian couple gives it 2 thumbs up!

This Fort is worth a visit, even if you have to take some time to walk there. The road is closed to cars. Once at the top opens up a very nice view of the sea. During the ascent you have views from atop the old city of Paraty. Around the Fort are many historic cannons from colonial times. The Museum there is very interesting. It shows many objects of daily life, musical instruments, and old photos from the cultural history of the place. Explains the history of slavery and there is one very interesting to see mask collection.

Our history. Little paved access, do not go on a rainy day. A little steep to reach and only on foot. Lush landscape, wonderful photos. Generally quiet, Museum doesn't always open. Worth a visit, no doubt.

Where to stay in Paraty

If you want close proximity to raucous summer nightlife and some of the best things to see in Paraty, look no further than the historical center. There you can choose from any number of guesthouses, inns, and boutique hotels, which integrate seamlessly into the town's colonial architecture. If beach access is your primary concern, cross the canal and head a few minutes north, until you arrive at the coastal neighborhood of Jabaquara, where you'll find a range of cozy options. Farther from the center, the hillside neighborhood of Pantanal offers something a bit quieter among the trees.
