Estrada Real, Paraty

(3.4/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Walk back in time as you follow Estrada Real, the paved road built by African slaves in the 18th Century to take gold and precious stones to ships bound for Portugal. It remains intact through Paraty’s incredible rainforest, and passionate “eco-historical” guides lead tours that immerse you in both nature and knowledge. While you have Paraty’s rich and colorful history explained to you, you also learn about the local flora and fauna. Stop to admire the wild raspberries and avocados your guide will find along the way. Towards the end of the gentle hike, you will stop at a beautiful waterfall run where you have a chance to swim and slide, before finishing the tour at a cachaça distillery that still makes Brazilian rum the traditional way. A taste of the finished product ensures you finish the day in high spirits. By using our Paraty itinerary planner, you can arrange your visit to Estrada Real and other attractions in Paraty.

  • This in good traffic conditions, but requires great care mainly arriving in Paraty, where it still remains, more than double the attention reform

  • the Royal Road and path must for those who love nature and do not hurry. I traveled from paraty to Aparecida in just over 2 hours. The stretch lace border RJ/SP this in paralelepipedos in the last 10 km, in very good state of conservation. Once in SP there is only joy until you reach the Aparecida.

  • For those who are in SP and want to get to Paraty without getting down the mountain by the traditional route by the Oswaldo Cruz to Ubatuba, take the highway Cunha-Paraty is way too hot to be done mainly in a ensolorado day. In São Paulo there are numerous restaurants, lavandário and even a waterfall near the road which is next to a curve at km 60 (approximately). Already crossing the border SP-RJ has a descent of Serra da Bocaina whose new floor was fully completed in 2016, since before it was to land and made the very dangerous descent. It is important to be careful on the descent, when the floor of blocks and starts the asphalt, because this part is more careless and that has several holes and patches as we approach the urban perimeter of Paraty.
