Casa da Cultura de Paraty, Paraty

Casa da Cultura de Paraty occupies a historic 18th century house originally built in 1754 and opened to the public in 2004. It houses a permanent exhibition about the local history and culture. In the Salon of Indigenous Culture, visitors can see the “carpets” made of colored sawdust and flower petals used during the festival of Corpus Christi in June. It also offers a variety of temporal exhibitions and concerts during the year. A variety of musical and literary events take place here for you to enjoy, along with a library to peruse and small bar where you can enjoy a nice coffee. One of the permanent exhibits is interactive, where you can watch and listen to locals giving testimonials of their experience living in Paraty. You can also purchase items from the locals, which helps to support small business. • Site with few attractions, but your historical value is better than anything you've ever seen. Recommend fetching the fields of crafts and also the spaces that preserve the walls and floors constructed many years ago, because the preservation of the site is fantastic.

  • My second home, I love this place, love the whole team working in order to do the best for all those who visit #casadaculturadeparaty hugs. Is a house turned to paratienses, with exhibitions with local artists, but that receives tourists of arms open. #vempracasadacultura

  • Just like everything in the historic center of Paraty is difficult to know what works there walking the streets. In the case of the House of culture has been the aggravation that when entering you still don't know where it is or what the purpose of the site. Despite the lack of dialogue with the public the works of pottery and other artistic interventions are note 10.

Where to stay in Paraty

If you want close proximity to raucous summer nightlife and some of the best things to see in Paraty, look no further than the historical center. There you can choose from any number of guesthouses, inns, and boutique hotels, which integrate seamlessly into the town's colonial architecture. If beach access is your primary concern, cross the canal and head a few minutes north, until you arrive at the coastal neighborhood of Jabaquara, where you'll find a range of cozy options. Farther from the center, the hillside neighborhood of Pantanal offers something a bit quieter among the trees.
