Praca Dos Girassois, Palmas

#1 of 8 in Sightseeing in State of Tocantins
Landmark Tourist Spot
With an area of approximately 570,000 sq m (6.1354 sq ft), Praca Dos Girassois is the second largest public square in the world, only surpassed by the Merdeka Square in Jakarta, Indonesia. Due to its immense size, it is even larger than the Tiananmen Square in Beijing and the Red Square in Moscow. It is considered as the administrative center of the state of Tocantins, since all three branches of the state (executive, legislative, and judicial) are located on it. Besides these governmental buildings, the huge square is also home to Memorial Luis Carlos Prestes, Monument of the Fort 18, and Metropolitan Cathedral of Palms. Other attractions also include a sundial, a playground, food court open during the night, fountains, and gardens to highlight the history and culture of the city. Plan your visit to Praca Dos Girassois and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Palmas vacation trip planner.

  • Square located right in the middle of the town dividing it into North and South. Of the largest in South America and where are the main attractions of the city. Beautiful, with many native trees and these IDs. Near noon is pretty empty by the heat.

  • The square of sunflowers will provide you a visit of the Palace and the monuments in honour of the Prestes column. Normal ride, but worth the photos to say you were in hand.

  • Very nice place to work out, relax sitting opposite the fountain (graceful night with your show of squirts and lights). Take the family. Enjoy your leisure.

Where to stay in Palmas

With a relatively small tourist crowd, Palmas features a concentration of higher-end accommodations, like resorts and comfortable hotels.
