Architectural Building Church
Designed in the Rococo style and completed in 1898 after nearly an entire century of building efforts, Sao Francisco de Paula church is an imposing colonial structure located near the historic center of town. Inside this city landmark you can see the statue of Saint Francisco and a life-size sculpture of the Last Supper. This is just one of many city structures bearing the mark of Aleijadinho, one of Brazil’s most highly-regarded sculptors and architects. The adjoining churchyard reveals panoramic views of the city. Make a quick stop here to take family photographs, or drop by in the evening to see the sun setting over this old colonial city. • This beautiful old church is perched on top of a steep hill, a few kilometres away from the town centre. It's a longer walk than some of the churches in the centre of town, but the view is worth it. Y...  more »
  • Maybe you'll be lucky to get a sunday morning mess, full of locals and that would be a great chance to admire the interiors. Walk down to Rua São José. Pass by the smaller church of São José.  more »
  • This church is very dark from the bus station, on the way to the historic centre, to the evening is full of people who go to the site to watch the sunset, I used some 15 times to Ouro Preto in several different days of the week and in different times, but I've never seen this church, is always closed.

  • This church is quite large, however, when I went to was in a State of disrepair and closed. If it was reformed and opened to the public would be a beautiful building to visitors. I don't think it's worth the visit in these conditions.

  • Easy access, but you need a restoration and revitalization of the surroundings.
