  • The science and technology part of this museum is very dated, but the rock and mineral collection is wonderful and comprehensive, as befitting an old mining town.  more »
  • This museum is really worthwhile for rock hounds and budding geologists. There is a very impressive collection of minerals, many of which are locally mined and turned into the "pedras lepidadas" sold ...  more »
  • Overwhelming number of mineral specimens (30,000?) on display in multiple rooms but Mineralogy 1 is spectacular if you appreciate geology at all. Plenty of other things to see and all is very educatio...  more »

  • This was an interesting museum. I learned a lot about Ouro Preto's mining history, but the museum could be laid out a bit better.
  • Positively impressed. Excellent Museum, maintained by Ouro Preto Federal University - UFOP. Mining, Natural History and basic Science... Worth visiting. Attention to detail, lots of gems, scale models, history, culture and early engineering efforts from Brazilian, Portuguese, British and others that came to this city looking for gold and other gems. Would recommend hiring a tour guide or renting a device that narrates each one of the museum rooms. Approx 38 well done audio lessons guiding the visitor to the epoch and time of the early mining and culture.
  • Had greater contact with the mineralogy in little more than 1:00 in this museum that throughout the life of curious. The ride is very worthwhile, either alone, or with family. I could see from concepts of geology physical practice.

  • Great place to visit. Worth the entry. But take time, because it has a lot of knowledge to be acquired in this place. Notice carefully and calmly.

  • Not to be missed! The Museum is quite diverse, but what stands out is the area of mining and Mineralogy: there's a giant Gallery with several examples of minerals and precious stones of the most distinguished, in addition to explanations of how is the extraction of ores, as does a mine and etc.
