Mina do Chico Rei, Ouro Preto

3.9
More than two thirds of this 250 m (820 ft) deep mine is underwater, but the museum outside and the other one third of Mina do Chico Rei provides plenty of mine history for nondiving explorers. At the museum, you'll learn about the history of the mine and the reasons why it filled with water. Follow the museum up with a tour of the mine galleries not submerged; there you'll get a sense of how a worker must have felt working in narrow passages and large galleries. If you’re in an underwater spelunking mood, then book an introductory diving tour of the cave’s entrance with a guide. Below the water you’ll see tram tracks, old boots, and discarded tools resting where they were left when the mine was abandoned. After your underwater adventure, check out the restaurant for some quick eats and a cold drink. The most interesting of the visit to Mina Chico Rei is the story told by the son of mine owner Root, very exciting and beautiful! I was in love with the history of the place, as it was found, as was preserved. Enriching for those seeking Brazil's history and culture. After visiting the mine we were greeted with a pork rinds and cachaça those mining operations.

Better mine that we went! The feel of this little experience of slave labor conditions made the tour a unique moment and realistic.

Whereas the visitation is very short, I found very expensive the amount charged by ... The mine that enters the restaurant is small. The visit lasts 15 minitos, the guide was with ill will in the explanations and didn't have a card with value of the input. He charged 50 Reais. I've been in the mine of the passage and is much better! I don't recommend the Chico Rei (at least that's the restaurant at the entrance. Disappointed!

Is the most picturesque region mine. It is worth visiting, light clothes and appropriate shoes, there are points that require crouching, humid areas. Here the extraction was all handmade, to feel the atmosphere of the time.

Nice story, but it is not so attractive when it comes to the mine because it is small and does not have any information explaining the luga, is simply a hole (tunnel) up to a certain point and back. Have a restaurant in its place.
