Mina do Chico Rei, Ouro Preto

4.1
More than two thirds of this 250 m (820 ft) deep mine is underwater, but the museum outside and the other one third of Mina do Chico Rei provides plenty of mine history for nondiving explorers. At the museum, you'll learn about the history of the mine and the reasons why it filled with water. Follow the museum up with a tour of the mine galleries not submerged; there you'll get a sense of how a worker must have felt working in narrow passages and large galleries. If you’re in an underwater spelunking mood, then book an introductory diving tour of the cave’s entrance with a guide. Below the water you’ll see tram tracks, old boots, and discarded tools resting where they were left when the mine was abandoned. After your underwater adventure, check out the restaurant for some quick eats and a cold drink. • Interesting site for knowledge of a gold mine. The site opened to visitation is short. Paid access and students and seniors pay half.

  • Although the Mine is good, the fact of having to pay 25 reais per person in a 30-minute tour, doesn't pay. You'll see only walls dug into the rock, damp, and learn a little as they were made. There are better places in Ouro Preto to invest.

  • visit to the gold mine whose property is attributed to the legendary Chico Rei. The great service of the Matthew, who patiently answers all the questions and aggregates information about the life of Chico Rei and mine exploration. Not recommended for small children or people with some difficulty of locomotion, as there are some tighter passes to pass.

  • Awesome colonial hotel. Welcome and eating area downstairs with rooms upstairs. Incredible art and colonial charm on all the walls. It was built a few centuries ago so don't expect modern, but they do have a few 21st century upgrades like the showers, TV, and mini fridge.
  • Lovely place in a historical building. Service a bit slow and breakfast not particularly good.
  • Unforgetable... I loved!!
  • The tourist itinerary begins at the Inn! With more than 200 years building houses works of art and presence signed by various Brazilian artists. Same as old the place offers all comfort, with bathrooms and modern power grid. The privileged location 50 metres from praça Tiradentes, gave to do everything on foot, which is a big advantage in Ouro Preto. The staff is helpful and friendly. Tea, coffee and cookies all the time. I think it was the best cost benefit from the trip.
