Mina do Chico Rei, Ouro Preto

(600+ reviews on the web)
Tourist Spot Mine
More than two thirds of this 250 m (820 ft) deep mine is underwater, but the museum outside and the other one third of Mina do Chico Rei provides plenty of mine history for nondiving explorers. At the museum, you'll learn about the history of the mine and the reasons why it filled with water. Follow the museum up with a tour of the mine galleries not submerged; there you'll get a sense of how a worker must have felt working in narrow passages and large galleries. If you’re in an underwater spelunking mood, then book an introductory diving tour of the cave’s entrance with a guide. Below the water you’ll see tram tracks, old boots, and discarded tools resting where they were left when the mine was abandoned. After your underwater adventure, check out the restaurant for some quick eats and a cold drink. • No big deal
  • Nice story, but it is not so attractive when it comes to the mine because it is small and does not have any information explaining the luga, is simply a hole (tunnel) up to a certain point and back. Have a restaurant in its place.

  • Is it legal to kill the ciriosidade, don't put a lot of expectations, the place is nice, but nothing more. It's cool if you want to customize any jewelry tbem.

  • It's not worth it, because it doesn't have tabs to enter the caves, like the other and does not inspire any security inside them. No sign across the paths. You enter without knowing anything and leaves without knowing anything. The only thing that give is a simple brochure.

  • Interesting to know a little more about how it was the work of mining back in the days of slavery, as well as the history of this legendary character. Not recommend for those who bother with tight spaces: the corridors are very narrow, dark, and it is necessary to walk down in several stretches.
