Andorinhas waterfall, Ouro Preto

4.2
#3 of 10 in Outdoors in Ouro Preto
Private tours take visitors to the pristine Andorinhas waterfall, located in Parque das Andorinhas, a large environmental protection area. Expert guides can lead you up a series of trails leading to this waterfall, which is famous for its rock formations creating a sort of small cave. These ancient stones attract hundreds of swallows each summer, prompting locals to call this site the "Waterfall of the Swallows." Keep in mind that in order to enter this cavern you will need to go down a short ladder, so comfortable clothes and soft shoes are highly recommended. For those looking for less adventure and more relaxation, the park also offers a variety of activities, like swimming, sunbathing, , and picnicking. • This waterfall is located inside the Park of the Swallows. Access to the Park is not easy, but he's relatively well taken care of. Access to the waterfall is well signposted, easy to reach. Quite exotic, since the waterfall is located hidden in a "cave" of rocks.

  • Actually this waterfall is within a municipal park. Access to the Park gives the slopes of Ouro Preto, encrustradas on the Hill, and after climbing the Hill you take a dirt road. At the headquarters of the Park gave us a brief explanation of the trails and waterfall. The trails are very extensive and steep. To be honest, I didn't think the effort of the trails worth the trip. The waterfalls are nice, but not spectacular about to be worth the walk. The most accessible is the swallow, 10 min of a trail from thirst, but with more difficult access in your end, because the falls are within a cave shut properly. You have to squeeze between the stones to pass. Don't pay entrance and there was trade. There are toilets and were very clean. I found the Park badly signposted, colored footprints mark the trails are too far apart from each other. But it's a beautiful site has some shallow declines at the entrance and a beautiful view of the mountain.
