Specialty Museum Museum
Get a close-up look at the master sculptor's work at Aleijadinho Museum, the museum in his name. This well-maintained museum brings together his various pieces, serving as a lesson in history. The statues themselves, carved out of wood, seem almost alive and their “clothes” appear to be soft, flowing fabric. On your way out, stop by the church, where both Aleijadinho and his father are buried. Pay for a guide in order to receive the greatest benefit of your visit. Take a look at our Ouro Preto travel itinerary maker to schedule your visit to Aleijadinho Museum and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • When we visit a place like this is that we see as the culture/history of Brazil is rich, very interesting story of this artist, although the guide said that there is not much written about him, most of the stories, in fact, they sound kind of like legend, nothing beats the more work left by this Brazilian genius, it is worth visiting the Museum and hire a local guide , excellent cost benefit.

  • Stay behind the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi. Very few works and a very limited space. It's not worth it. You will find other works of Aleijadinho for the city.

  • The Museum is very small, is in a part of the Church. Though the works are interesting and of historical importance. Worth the visit!

  • Incredible wood sculptures for the time, but I'm not particularly a fan. But quite important to get to know about this artist if you look for a history tour in Ouro Preto
  • Is a 300 years old with more than 80% original or restored to original. Have a unique rum which is delicious!

  • I couldn't visit on 03/02/2017. I was in retirement. Stayed for a next time. But the outside of the already reformed church was very beautiful.
