Museu do Mamulengo, Olinda

4.1
#1 of 7 in Museums in Olinda
At Museu do Mamulengo, you will discover a fascinating array of handcrafted puppets from many centuries, some over 100 years old. Mamulengo is a type of puppet/doll that was used to pass along church teachings and capture small town gossip and folklore. The museum is small and quaint, packed with historical puppets telling stories about life in Northeast Brazil. It is a colorful to understand the multicultural aspects of present day Brazil. Some give a humorous twist to the less attractive aspects of the development of society and industry in Brazil. The guide is very helpful with enough English and a lot of passion to give you a glimpse into the art of puppetry. • Really nice to meet the mamulengos. Worth to the Museum of the giant puppets of Olinda, despite the impact caused by bonecões. The mamulengos are pure history

Where to stay in Olinda

In keeping with the city's quaint heritage and architecture, most of the accommodations in Olinda are small, family-run inns or private rentals. This generally keeps prices low, with plenty of budget options available, although during carnival time expect to pay triple the usual rate on almost any inn or hotel in town. The old-town neighborhood of Carmo, with its proximity to many of the best attractions in Olinda, offers by far the highest concentration of places to stay and allows you to immerse yourself in the charming surroundings. Look along the city's northern coast to find several good beachside hotels where you can relax and find easy access to the water.
