Museu do Mamulengo, Olinda

(4.1/5 based on 190 reviews on the web)
At Museu do Mamulengo, you will discover a fascinating array of handcrafted puppets from many centuries, some over 100 years old. Mamulengo is a type of puppet/doll that was used to pass along church teachings and capture small town gossip and folklore. The museum is small and quaint, packed with historical puppets telling stories about life in Northeast Brazil. It is a colorful to understand the multicultural aspects of present day Brazil. Some give a humorous twist to the less attractive aspects of the development of society and industry in Brazil. The guide is very helpful with enough English and a lot of passion to give you a glimpse into the art of puppetry.
