4.1
#5 of 37 in Things to do in Olinda
Opened in late 2011, Caixa d'Agua Alto da Se / Elevador Panoramico is an old water tower transformed into an observation deck offering 360 degree panoramic views. An elevator takes you 20 meters (66 feet) up from which you can clearly see the cities Olinda and Recife, the harbor, lighthouse, the different shades of the blue sea, and even the reef. Access is controlled, taking only a few people at a time, but the short queue is worth the wait. Caixa d'Agua Alto da Se / Elevador Panoramico serves as a great introduction to the historic city of Olinda. In addition you can have a very nice view of Olinda high, you can enjoy some explanations about the sea and the stars. There are monitors that guide this activity.

The alto da Sé is very nice, beautiful views, a fair with juices, tapioca, handicrafts, bards and musical groups leave the place with a cool atmosphere, where it is worth spending time (watch out for some restaurants "skinning tourist". Already the elevator has an absurd value that makes no sense and you have no option to climb to the lookout without paying the fee, getting to be outrageous.

its cylindrical shape and the top give an appearance of Observatory. Surrounded by the local market is a place very busy count you can taste typical dishes at very low cost. It is also picturesque for its handicrafts and fabrics, as well as offering a beautiful view to the sea from there.

Where to stay in Olinda

In keeping with the city's quaint heritage and architecture, most of the accommodations in Olinda are small, family-run inns or private rentals. This generally keeps prices low, with plenty of budget options available, although during carnival time expect to pay triple the usual rate on almost any inn or hotel in town. The old-town neighborhood of Carmo, with its proximity to many of the best attractions in Olinda, offers by far the highest concentration of places to stay and allows you to immerse yourself in the charming surroundings. Look along the city's northern coast to find several good beachside hotels where you can relax and find easy access to the water.
