Museum of Contemporary Art, Niteroi

4.5
#1 of 11 in Museums in Niteroi
The UFO-shaped Museum of Contemporary Art exhibits works by contemporary Brazilian and international artists. The unusually shaped structure is the brainchild of none other than famed architect Oscar Niemeyer and, with a collection of over 1,200 artworks, remains one of the largest and most significant institutions of its kind in the country. Looking from the museum's observation room you can see the bay below, the city of Rio de Janeiro, and the surrounding mountainous landscape. The museum restaurant is a great place for discussing the art over a meal or a drink. Put Museum of Contemporary Art at the forefront of your travel plans using our Niteroi planner .

  • You really come here to see the building which it’s a piece of art itself, sadly the exhibition is poor and bad curated  more »
  • Although not very pleasing display, the place has a beautiful architecture and is in a privileged location as the landscape. Yields great pictures and the view is wonderful. It is worth visiting.

  • The museum itself is the greatest piece of art. Also you can enjoy great views of Rio de Janeiro. They also have a very nice bistro there.
  • Probably the best located museum in the world, plus, one of the greatest designs by Oscar Niemeyer, completed by the most amazing view of Rio de Janeiro makes the perfect and the must-must-go place in Niteroi
  • Beautiful. A fine visit for family with an interactive exhibit for small children. A delightful space with marvelous views of Rio. Take the ferry. Enjoy the Bistro for a charming lunch.
  • Oscar Niemeyer iconic museum in Niterói, where you can go by ferry, car or bus. A must visit place. No need to pre buy tickets. It also has a bar, and the characteristic magic of being there. Private collections exposing also, changing every 30 days or 60 days I don't remember very well this last detail.
  • An architecturally stunning gallery on the most beautiful promontory. The site itself is worth the visit, but the exhibition space and restaurant must be experienced!!
