Metropolitan Cathedral, Natal
Categories: Churches, Tourist Spots
With its modern construction and conical shape, Metropolitan Cathedral is not your typical church experience. Located in the Cicade Alta district, this church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Presentation, patron saint of the city. Walk inside its cool walls on a hot day, and take a moment to admire its stained-glass windows, large crosses, and three bells. Locally known as the New Cathedral, the church was inaugurated in 1988. Large, airy, with almost no sacred images, it is an architectural achievement well worth a quick stop. Pope John Paul II stopped by in 1991. You can buy souvenirs and snacks in the basement if you’re just passing through, or choose to stay for daily mass. The cathedral is open for visitors every day of week.
