#1 of 170 in Things to do in Natal
Choose from leisurely camel rides or exciting beach buggy adventures to explore Dunas de Genipabu, located inside a world-famous environmental protection area. These shifting dunes are located on a beach noted for its secluded freshwater lagoon. The beach includes plenty of tourist facilities, such as hotels, inns, restaurants, and food kiosks. Many visitors opt to experience the sandbanks by sandboarding over them, starting on top of some of the highest dunes in the country and ending up right on the water’s edge. Intense winds shift the sand around, constantly creating new landscapes and surprising even frequent visitors with this ever-changing beach scenery. Don’t forget to bring a camera for your dune adventure, and your swimming gear for a refreshing dip in the lagoon. • Fantastic incredibly beautiful seaside village about half an hour north by road from Natal's bridges across Rio Potengi from Natal, Rn. Beautiful safe to bathe beach lined with lots of beachside restaurants good for fish or meat dishes. Dunes above beach are awesome and maybe climbed by athletic & sure footed or tours led by buggy drivers available from US $60 through dunes from Genipabu village or from around US $ 100 from Natal. Tours may continue on to Pitangui & Cape Riangha eastern most point of Rio Grande do Norte state. In rainy season April to early August ;Genipabu near & after sunset is especially famous for it's mosquitos which seem to be a particular curse for fair skinned visitors. Hotel Genipabu high in hills with its own swimming pool tends to avoid the problems with mosquitos. Visitors should also try by car or buggy try the raft ferry at nearby Gracendu & see the seaside mansions of Natal's political elite. At weekends & in January & February village maybe at times crowded but midweek visits are usually quieter & much more rewarding.
