Catedral Metropolitana de Natal, Natal

4.3
#2 of 17 in Historic Sites in State of Rio Grande do Norte
Church Tourist Spot
With its modern construction and conical shape, Catedral Metropolitana de Natal is not your typical church experience. Located in the Cicade Alta district, this church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Presentation, patron saint of the city. Walk inside its cool walls on a hot day, and take a moment to admire its stained-glass windows, large crosses, and three bells. Locally known as the New Cathedral, the church was inaugurated in 1988. Large, airy, with almost no sacred images, it is an architectural achievement well worth a quick stop. Pope John Paul II stopped by in 1991. You can buy souvenirs and snacks in the basement if you’re just passing through, or choose to stay for daily mass. The cathedral is open for visitors every day of week. Where to stay in Natal

Looking to enjoy the best beaches and soak up the holiday atmosphere, most visitors eschew the city center when it comes to accommodations in Natal. Instead, many look to the southern beachside neighborhood of Ponta Negra, which brims with tourist resorts and the accompanying bars, restaurants, and cafes. If you want to escape the tourist route and experience the city itself, you'll find plenty of options along the beachside boulevard of Av. Presidente Cafe Filho--a stone's throw from the beach and the city center. For something much quieter, surrounded by rolling dunes and clear waters, stay on the seafront next to Parque das Dunas.

  • Great choice of tourism religiso, modern architecture, ample parking. Highlighting the presence of elevator for wheelchair users access to the basement, where are the bathrooms. Excellent team. In addition to great downtown location, near the famous promenade of João Pessoa Street.

  • Very beautiful church, well located, concluded well prepared, however for a church in the Northeast, is very little ventilated.
