Ponte Velha, Morretes
Categories: Bridges, Tourist Spots
City landmark Ponte Velha, constructed in 1912 and extensively restored in 1975, crosses the Nhundiaquara River in the spot once used for gold panning. The bridge is close to the downtown area and serves up a bit of local history in a natural setting. Wide enough for the passage of only one vehicle at time, the bridge once stood as a symbol of regional wealth. Today this remnant of the past reminds visitors of the many changes and modern developments the country has gone through in the recent decades. Near the bridge you can find several restaurants (with outdoor seating overlooking the river), as well as a few souvenir shops and convenient general stores.
