Gunga Beach, Maceio

4.1
#1 of 97 in Things to do in Maceio
Beach Nature / Park
Celebrated for its extraordinary white sands and exuberant coconut groves, Gunga Beach offers the best of both worlds: a quiet inner beach and a bustling outer beach. The inner reef is quieter with soft white sands, small food and drink vendors, and calm waters. The outer reef is bustling with tourist activity, loud music, raging waves, many waterfront bar restaurants, and small shops selling handmade crafts. Praia do Gunga (Gungas Beach) has unique Maceió south coast positioning surrounded by high cliffs between Lagoa do Roteiro (Roteiro Lake) and the Atlantic Ocean. This gives the waters its signature turquoise color during low tide and its emerald green hue during high tide when the ocean waters meet the waters of the lake.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent equipment to go surfing, windsurfing, and jet skiing, or go on a boat tour beyond the reef. While none of the beaches in Brazil are private, access to this beach is private, but the coconut farm offers vehicle access for a fee. It's easier and more cost effective to get there by boat from Barra de São Miguel or via a tour guide company that transports you by bus or catamaran. • The beach itself is good, but there's no way to get out of there without feeling exploited. The ATV tour $100/person buggy R$45/person and the food super guy. If you enjoy the beach I recommend of Paripueira or Barra de São Miguel

  • I was in a time of rain and water color was blurred, the beach is very beautiful, but it is annoying the amount of stalls offering their products 2:00 pm 2 minutes passes a and this is boring. If you stay at some kiosk learn that has minimum consumption, the servings of snacks are not generous.

  • I was in the tent Kokal. Very good service, but I believe that in the high season it is a bit time consuming. Unfortunately I had to leave for a next time the buggy rides and fourth cycle because I was with a baby of 8 months.

Where to stay in Maceio

Accommodations in Maceio crowd around the city's eastern shorefront, competing for a spot in the morning sun. The best places to stay during your Maceio vacation are the neighborhoods of Ponta de Terra, Ponta Verde, and Jatiúca. You can find everything from free-spirited hostels to high-class hotels and beach resorts along the coastal strip, within a stone's throw of white sand beaches. To get off the beaten track, go west to the other edge of the city, where palm-lined Lagoa Mundaú brims with birdlife and local fishers looking for the day's catch among the mangroves.
