Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca, Lima Duarte

(4.8/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Rich in fauna and flora, Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca is one of the most beautiful state parks of Minas Gerais. From a choice of three trails, all varying in degrees of difficulty and length, you can explore rare quartzite caves, peaks overlooking the immense sea of mountains, maroon-colored streams, natural swimming pools, and some of the most spectacular waterfalls. Guides come highly recommended, and add considerably to your experience with their invaluable knowledge and expertise, especially in identifying the numerous species of animals you will see on your hike. The gateway to this natural retreat is the rustic town of Conceição de Ibitipoca, one of the oldest and most traditional in the area. Make sure you buy some delicious cinnamon bread from Dona Maria, whose house you’ll pass on your way. • Place of pure nature with very well signposted trails! There's no way to get lost in there and, at the same time, you feel completely integrated with green!

  • I visited the Park in the days of Carnival, high season. So if you intend to go on popular holidays, the tip is to arrive early to the Park, which opens on time (7 a.m.). There is a limit of 1200 people a day, and on Sunday of Carnival the Park closed its 9 a.m. by excess people. Admission is 20 reais (has a half for student) and parking 20 reais (but there are only 50 slots to park inside has to get too early). There is possibility to park the car outside the Park, but formed a queue, the later you come away will stop! When entering the park for a walk to do until you reach the main circuits (the window of heaven and the Top are at the entrance, the water just after the restaurant) with a very steep ascent/descent. There is a visitor center for information on tours, a gift shop that sells articles for the tours (flashlight, rain coat, purse, cane, etc), a snack bar and restaurant (that do not offer good options, break the branch only) and bathrooms. The Park is very pretty and preserved, there are lighter tracks (water circuit), heavier (window of heaven), anyway, for all tastes. Take water, food, sunscreen, insect repellent, a raincoat (the time in ibitipoca is crazy, a second is Sun, another rain), Cap (design of Sun and rain, the water doesn't fall on his face!) and flashlight if you want to take advantage of the caves (really, the lights not nothing). I went in the summer and cold in the morning, sometimes foggy, so take a jacket. Don't be intimidated in the beginning of the trail is fog, it is very likely that in it the Sun to appear. Oh, and I advise you to take a very basic first-aid kit. I hurt my foot in a waterfall and had not taken anything. Luckily there's firefighters, very helpful by the way, that helped me. Get there early to enjoy the day and make walking easy, stop to enjoy the scenery, take pictures, enjoy the waterfalls.

  • Magic place, fantastic landscapes, trails well marked with safety and organization. If you're into tracks with a nice this place is perfect, the waterfalls are beautiful, the water with the reddish color gives a special touch to the place.
