Nature / Park Must See
Rich in fauna and flora, Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca is one of the most beautiful state parks of Minas Gerais. From a choice of three trails, all varying in degrees of difficulty and length, you can explore rare quartzite caves, peaks overlooking the immense sea of mountains, maroon-colored streams, natural swimming pools, and some of the most spectacular waterfalls. Guides come highly recommended, and add considerably to your experience with their invaluable knowledge and expertise, especially in identifying the numerous species of animals you will see on your hike. The gateway to this natural retreat is the rustic town of Conceição de Ibitipoca, one of the oldest and most traditional in the area. Make sure you buy some delicious cinnamon bread from Dona Maria, whose house you’ll pass on your way. • The Park is very well structured. Well signposted, with an infrastructure of bar, restaurant and toilets to welcome visitors. We track the window of heaven, it's not easy, it's heavy and tiring, but it was worth every Km covered, of 16 Km that we have come! The waterfalls are invigorating! It's worth it!

  • The Ibitipoca State Park is in fact the main attraction of the region and even the smallest tracks already justifies the fame. The Park costs $10 per person (with half for students and senior citizens) and $20 for cars on weekdays, doubling the price on weekends and holidays, in addition to offering camping option costing R$40, however there is a limit of 300 people Therefore it is important to arrive early, especially in the high season. At the entrance of the Park we noticed that the site is well structured, with an information center with guides, maps and miscellaneous information about the Park. There is also a large restaurant with several options for tourists. The Park has three main tracks, the smaller (approximately 4 miles round trip) is the waterfall of the apes, the "average" (with approximately 11 km round trip) is the peak of the Top, and the last and longest is the Sky window with approximately 17 km round-trip. The distances are a good indication that the tracks are not for everyone, however it is possible that all enjoy the Park since, with short trips you can visit some beautiful attractions, such as the cave of the Rabbits, Mirror Lake (where it is possible to swim) and Prainha. To reach the other attractions it takes some effort, being the Top peak the most complicated, because of the slope of the trails, and the window of heaven the more difficult, because of the distance. However, since the visits are made with long (full day) you can enjoy the attractions with constant intervals of rest. The trails are very well marked, counting also with the distance between the attractions and the Concierge (it is worth mentioning here that the gatehouse to the parking lot are 1, 2 km, so the distances seem much bigger stick really are) and counting with several points of rest and lookouts for observation of the Park. It is noteworthy that, although the Park can be visited year-round, visits at the time of heat are more complicated because the tracks prove little coverage and the heat is detrimental to the walk. And, in times of rain, the trails are slippery, especially those closest to the waterfalls that are in stone and not on land, and the fog impairs the visibility of viewpoints.

  • The Park is very well kept, and the staff that works there is always willing to provide information to visitors. Has a restaurant where the staff are attentive. Worth knowing!
