Farol do Serrote, Jericoacoara

Step off the beaten track with a visit to Farol do Serrote, a lighthouse standing as the region’s symbol of remoteness and isolation from the world of screeching car horns and electronic billboards. Not just a remnant of the bygone days, this lighthouse is still in operation. Due to extreme shallowness of these waters, vessels often need careful guidance as they approach the shore. To preserve the area’s timeless quality, artificial street illumination is still forbidden by local law, which makes the lighthouse a necessary beacon of light for seafarers and villagers. You can stop by to watch the sunset from here, or stay late to see boats returning home after long days on the sea. • I enjoyed the walk on the Hill saw the view is beautiful, to see Jeri off, the dunes, the sunrise and the sunset at sea. It's worth it.

  • Is to walk with slow down, stop, breathe, observe the beach above, as well as village down there. A place that, besides providing rare beauty, makes us reflect on these places of beauty so rare

  • The climb to the Lighthouse is a little tiring, but well worth the walk to the beautiful view that we can get up there. The beaches, the sea, the dunes, the village is really beautiful.

Where to stay in Jericoacoara

As part of a national park, building restrictions in Jericoacoara keep all new constructions within strict guidelines. As a result, the pousadas (guesthouses) here are squat and rustic, in keeping with the remote, paradisal charm of the place. Despite its isolation and small permanent population, Jericoacoara's tourism infrastructure has grown markedly in recent years, adding lots of pousadas to the main village. Ranging from luxury options with pools and other amenities, to simple rooms in humble abodes, you'll find accommodations to suit various budgets and tastes. Book in advance, especially for peak season (December to February).
