Farol do Serrote, Jericoacoara

3.0
#11 of 26 in Historic Sites in State of Ceara
Step off the beaten track with a visit to Farol do Serrote, a lighthouse standing as the region’s symbol of remoteness and isolation from the world of screeching car horns and electronic billboards. Not just a remnant of the bygone days, this lighthouse is still in operation. Due to extreme shallowness of these waters, vessels often need careful guidance as they approach the shore. To preserve the area’s timeless quality, artificial street illumination is still forbidden by local law, which makes the lighthouse a necessary beacon of light for seafarers and villagers. You can stop by to watch the sunset from here, or stay late to see boats returning home after long days on the sea. The location provides a beautiful view of beaches and places to kitesurf. But the walk to the location is exhausting. For how to get through the chariots. My advice is get ready to walk because of the scenery and return to cart. As has no appeal.

Off course of routine in Jeri, you can't enter or climb the lighthouse and the view is nice, but it's not a sight not to be missed. Not worth the walk.

Where to stay in Jericoacoara

As part of a national park, building restrictions in Jericoacoara keep all new constructions within strict guidelines. As a result, the pousadas (guesthouses) here are squat and rustic, in keeping with the remote, paradisal charm of the place. Despite its isolation and small permanent population, Jericoacoara's tourism infrastructure has grown markedly in recent years, adding lots of pousadas to the main village. Ranging from luxury options with pools and other amenities, to simple rooms in humble abodes, you'll find accommodations to suit various budgets and tastes. Book in advance, especially for peak season (December to February).
