Duna do Por do Sol, Jericoacoara

4.7
#1 of 168 in Parks in State of Ceara
The constant wind of the Duna do Por do Sol makes the small fishing village and National Park of Jericoacoara one of the best places in the world for windsurfing and sailing. As you head out wearing comfortable shoes across the high dunes, you'll notice lagoons created by the rainwater and shaped by the constant winds. A fun, adventurous way to see the dunes and much of the National Park is to rent a dune buggy that can take you to more of the fresh water lagoons than any other transportation vehicle.

If you venture further into the dunes, you'll find larger lagoons and small rivers running as far as the eye can see in valleys formed between the dunes peaks. The bottom of the pools is soft and sandy, which makes them excellent for wading, swimming, and water sports. As the sun begins to set--a sunset that most remark is the most beautiful sunset in all of Brazil--you'll notice people sliding down the dunes seated on objects that resemble snow sleds, called ski-bunda, or "butt-skiing." • Let's say the dune is beautiful and the sunset is wonderful, it's God who did! But honestly ... 1 time enough, ready said! That sand in the face knocking without ceasing. Already on the other days, I'm perfect for you, go for coffee, the latest jeri 17:00 not to run out of place and go watch the for same sunset, surrounded by beautiful people and the sound of Dj, percucionistas and even one would be! And the best ... 0800

Where to stay in Jericoacoara

As part of a national park, building restrictions in Jericoacoara keep all new constructions within strict guidelines. As a result, the pousadas (guesthouses) here are squat and rustic, in keeping with the remote, paradisal charm of the place. Despite its isolation and small permanent population, Jericoacoara's tourism infrastructure has grown markedly in recent years, adding lots of pousadas to the main village. Ranging from luxury options with pools and other amenities, to simple rooms in humble abodes, you'll find accommodations to suit various budgets and tastes. Book in advance, especially for peak season (December to February).
