#3 of 19 in Sightseeing in Itu
Landmark Tourist Spot
The centerpiece of Itu’s historic center, Praca da Matriz has an inimitable charm, combining the old and the new to form a picturesque town square. The plaza is home to the city’s mother church, the Igreja Matriz, as well as a variety of 19th century houses and, notably, a bizarre collection of oversized objects that are well-known across the country. • A square in front of the Church under construction and near the shops of traditional souvenirs, obligatory stop for all visitors in Itu. In the square have pay phone giant, giant light and everything that a typical square has, Bandstand, band, ice cream vendor, scratch card, cotton candy ... Be sure to walk the narrow streets around the square and visit the museums that can go a few meters from the square.

Where to stay in Itu

Much of Itu's accommodations lie in the city center, in the form of larger, upscale hotels that provide pools, fine dining, and plenty of the amenities you'd expect from well-known chains. While these tend to feature higher prices, they offer easy access to the attractions in the city center. Budget travelers should keep an eye out for smaller family-run guesthouses and hotels scattered around the historic core. To escape the bustle of the city center, consider staying in the surrounding countryside. Though you'll need some form of transportation to get to and fro, staying in the outskirts puts you close to some of the region's numerous plantation-style homes, many of which date back to the 18th century.
