Bom Jesus Sanctuary and Church, Itu

(4.4/5 based on 55 reviews on the web)
One of Itu's most beautiful examples of colonial architecture, the Baroque Bom Jesus Sanctuary and Church will mesmerize you with its detailed religious art. From the outside, take note of the the statues of Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John gazing skyward. Inside, pay special attention to the columns of the church's basilica, which mimic those of the Church of St. John in Rome. The origins of Bom Jesus Sanctuary and Church date back to the 17th century, and it was rebuilt between 1763 and 1765. The church has not undergone major restoration since, so it stands as an authentic piece of colonial heritage. You should have no trouble locating Bom Jesus Sanctuary and Church on the Praca Padre Ancieta in the center of Itu. • Big church and spacious, beautiful and moving images. The door of mercy presence this year. Site that I feel welcomed, touched and close to God.

  • A pity as everything in Brazil, the neglect with the historic heritage see clearly in this church. The Church is beautiful, but is poorly conserved. The roof of the altar, with paintings, has several wooden boards on top. I don't know whether to fill holes, hold the ceiling. Various parts with the peeling paint. The side chapel, with stained glass Windows and the play of light is very beautiful. I think still worth the visit.

  • Located just below the city's main square, this church is one of the oldest, but one of the most preserved of all the religious heritage of Itu. Worth knowing just by age, since it was built in 1765.
